What is SEIIA, and why should Swedish industry care?

Ask three different systems in a process plant what a pump is called, and you can get three different answers. The same pump. Three names, three numbers. That is, unfortunately, everyday life in asset-intensive industry, and it costs money every time data has to be handed over between engineers, suppliers and operations.

SEIIA, the Swedish Industrial Interoperability Association, exists so that pump is called the same thing everywhere.

The association grew out of the government-backed LCDM project and brings Swedish industry together around interoperability: getting systems to exchange data and actually understand one another. The foundation is the international standard ISO 15926, and SEIIA pushes the line that Swedish companies should speak the same language as the rest of the world, CFIHOS, DEXPI, POSC Caesar, instead of inventing their own.

The current focus is digital product passports and validated digital twins, not a pretty 3D model, but asset data you can actually trust across the whole lifecycle. It is also where the EU is heading, with product passports becoming real in earnest during 2026.
